Ubah Media Lab is a mission-driven social enterprise dedicated to promoting economic growth and social development through media and ICT. We specialize in harnessing digital technologies and media to drive progress, focusing on Media Development, Media for Development, and ICT for Socio-Economic Development (ICT4D). Our business model centers on creating training spaces for youth and the working-age population, equipping them with essential digital and media skills. 1. Background
The Media Training Programme is a three-month capacity-building initiative designed to equip aspiring and early-career media practitioners with essential knowledge and practical skills in journalism, digital media, storytelling, and communication. The programme responds to the growing need for professional, ethical, and digitally skilled media actors who can contribute to informed societies, peacebuilding, and socio-economic development.
2. Objectives
The overall objectives of the programme are to:
- Strengthen participants’ technical media and communication skills.
- Enhance digital literacy and ethical media practices.
- Foster creativity and critical thinking in storytelling, reporting, and content production.
- Empower participants to contribute to positive social change through responsible media use.
3. Programme Duration and Modality
- Duration: 3 months (12 weeks).
- Format: Blended (in-person workshops, online sessions, and practical assignments).
- Commitment: Participants must dedicate at least 10–15 hours per week to lectures, mentorship, and assignments.
4. Key Training Components
- Media ethics and responsible journalism.
- News writing, interviewing, and reporting skills.
- Audio-visual storytelling (radio, podcasting, video production).
- Digital media and social media content creation.
- Fact-checking, verification, and countering misinformation.
- Advocacy, campaigns, and community storytelling.
- Personal branding, media entrepreneurship, and career pathways.
5. Expected Outcomes
By the end of the programme, participants will:
- Acquire practical knowledge and tools for professional media work.
- Produce individual or group media projects (podcast, short film, article, or digital campaign).
- Build networks with peers, trainers, and industry professionals.
- Receive a certificate of completion recognizing their participation and skills.
6. Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be between 18–30 years old (exceptions may apply).
- Demonstrate interest in media, communications, or digital storytelling.
- Have basic computer and internet literacy.
- Commit to attending all training sessions and completing assignments.
- Be able to communicate in [Somali and English].
7. Application Requirements

5. Reference (optional): Letter of recommendation from an academic, employer, or community leader.
8. Selection Process
- Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee.
- Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a short interview.
- Final selection will ensure gender balance, diversity, and representation across communities.
