On a personal level, this programme strongly aligned with my passion for education and continuous self-development. I have always believed in expanding my knowledge and challenging myself to grow in different fields. I hold a degree in Accounting from the University of Bosaso, and I am currently pursuing additional professional certifications (ACCA, AAOIFI, CFA) while also studying IT, accounting, and media management. This combination reflects my commitment to gaining diverse knowledge and building a strong and adaptable professional foundation.

Participating in the Media Accelerator Programme at Ubah Media Lab was a transformative experience that combined practical learning, storytelling, and personal development. The programme provided a valuable platform for building technical media skills while also deepening my understanding of the role of storytelling in shaping perspectives and influencing communities. It was not just a learning experience, but a journey that challenged me to grow both professionally and personally.
One of the most meaningful aspects of the programme was the opportunity to develop real-life stories that reflect the challenges and growth of young people in our society. For instance, in one of our stories, we explored the journey of Ahmed Ali, a young university student from Garowe who initially believed that academic education alone would guarantee his success. However, after facing repeated rejections due to a lack of practical skills and real-world experience, he came to understand the importance of combining education with hands-on skills. His transformation from uncertainty to confidence demonstrated a powerful lesson: while education provides direction, practical skills provide strength.
Similarly, another story highlighted the experience of Aisha Hassan, a young woman who struggled with the fear of expressing herself in digital spaces. Despite her interest in media, she was held back by fear of criticism and a lack of confidence. Through media training, she gradually transformed that fear into confidence and discovered her voice. Her journey emphasized how digital media can be used as a powerful tool for empowerment, self-expression, and positive social impact when approached with purpose and responsibility.
Working on these stories helped me understand the responsibility that comes with storytelling. Media is not only about sharing information; it is about representing real experiences with accuracy, sensitivity, and integrity. This experience strengthened my ability to think critically, understand different perspectives, and create meaningful content that resonates with audiences. It also taught me that storytelling can be a powerful tool for social awareness and change.
Throughout my journey, I consistently pushed myself beyond my comfort zone. I value both mental and physical development, and I actively work on strengthening my discipline, resilience, and focus. I believe that true growth comes from facing challenges and embracing continuous improvement. The programme environment encouraged me to be proactive, creative, and adaptable, which further strengthened my confidence and ability to work under pressure.
The programme also played a significant role in developing my practical media skills. I developed a strong interest in storytelling, audio editing, and video editing. Creating content from idea to production allowed me to combine creativity with technical skills. I particularly enjoyed the process of transforming ideas into meaningful stories that can inspire, inform, and empower others. This experience helped me better understand how media content is planned, produced, and delivered effectively.
However, this journey was not without challenges. Like many learners, I faced moments of difficulty and self-doubt, especially when dealing with new tools and unfamiliar tasks. At times, learning audio and video editing felt overwhelming. However, what made a difference was my mindset. I strongly believe in the principle of “read it, try it again,” which encourages persistence and learning through repetition. Instead of giving up, I continued practicing, exploring new methods, and learning from my mistakes. This approach allowed me to gradually improve and turn my weaknesses into strengths.
Reflecting on this experience, I can confidently say that the Media Accelerator Programme has strengthened both my skills and my mindset. It taught me the importance of combining knowledge with action, creativity with responsibility, and ambition with discipline. I learned that success is not only about talent, but also about consistency, effort, and the willingness to keep improving.
Looking ahead, I remain committed to further developing my skills and using media as a tool for positive impact. My goal is to create meaningful content that empowers youth, raises awareness, and contributes to community development. I also aim to continue learning, gaining new experiences, and collaborating with others to create impactful media projects.
In conclusion, this experience has not only shaped my professional path but also strengthened my identity as a learner, a creator, and a future leader. It has given me the confidence, skills, and mindset needed to move forward with purpose and determination. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continuing this journey of growth and impact.
